Last fall, I wrote a series about engaging assessment strategies. I received lots of positive feedback about Vocabulary Dominoes, a strategy I adopted from Lead4ward. Students begin by connecting a set of dominoes with important math vocabulary and terms written on them in place of the dots. The connections are based on the students understanding of the terms. There are no incorrect arrangements unless a students fails to justify the connections. The domino activity itself is very powerful for students, but adding the assessment component gives teachers a real glimpse into student understanding. See the image below for an example.
